Evercare Hospice is looking for volunteers who will provide companionship and socialization to our patients on Hospice. Hospice patients are in the final days, weeks or months of their life and would benefit greatly from visits by someone compassionate & caring during this time. You can expect our patients to enjoy sitting and talking with you or maybe just watching TV or a movie together. Many patients enjoy someone reading to them (a book, the newspaper, the bible) or you could compose a letter to their loved one or friends. You could simply sit and listen to them as they reminisce about their life. This experience will touch your life - it will change you - make you look at your family - friends - and others differently. You are actually the one benefitting from the experience but you won't understand that until you actually begin visiting a patient. There is no better way to give back to the community in which you live than to spend time with someone who really needs you, in their final hours. They don't need your money - your advice or expensive gifts - they need your time, your respect, some compassion and your hand to hold. All volunteers must complete a training course, submit to a: 2 step TB test, drug screening and a criminal background check, Hepatitis B vaccination is offered but not mandatory. All at no charge to the volunteer. Our patients are located throughout Orange County and reside either in their own home, Assisted Living, Nursing Facility or Board and Care.

Optum Palliative & Hospice Care, is accredited by the Community Health Accreditation Program, Inc. (CHAP) under the CHAP Hospice Standards of Excellence.
CHAP accreditation recognizes that OPTUM meets the industry's highest nationally recognized standards. Less than 15 percent of all US hospice agencies are CHAP accredited.
As demonstrated through CHAP accreditation, OPTUM provides high-quality, compassionate hospice and palliative care services in 11 states. Not only do we provide the basic hospice and palliative care services required by law, we offer many additional services that standard hospices do not. Here are the benefits and services our patients could receive:
- Involvement of an OPTUM Hospice or Palliative Care Physician
- Unrestricted access to the kind of therapies patients need, including certain life-prolonging therapies, such as radiation or chemotherapy
- Coordinated care with the patient's physician
- Assistance navigating the health care system and Medicare/Medicaid certification
- 24-hour-a-day on-call support
- Pain and symptom management and control
- Psychological and spiritual support
- Support and education for patients' loved ones
At the heart of hospice is the belief that everyone has the right to dignity and freedom from pain at the end of life. This is why we are dedicated to creating personalized care plans, which give patients the specific care they need and deserve.
OPTUM Palliative & Hospice Care is Medicare-approved, which means that our services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, military health plans and most private insurance companies.
