Each meal service strives to be a cordial, safe, calm, and delicious dining experience. This meal has been a linchpin of BSM’s outreach of compassion and justice since 2008.
Our meal service runs similarly to a restaurant. Training and orientation will be provided the day of and is built into the volunteer shift (10:30 - 2:00pm). Volunteers will be assigned a specific role - server, busser, greeter, host, etc. Volunteers will assist by serving the already plated meals and clear and reset table setting to welcome new guests.

Mission Statement
We envision the day when everyone crossing our threshold flourishes as they participate fully as valued members of a mutually supportive community.
Description
For more than five years Broad Street Ministry (BSM) has been at the forefront in terms of creating unique, trauma-informed indoor dining experiences. And during that time we have developed several valuable partnerships with social service providers. Now that we have added two evening meals and a Saturday lunch to the Breaking Bread line-up, the next stage of our growth in this work is to bring more providers into BSM’s space in an even more integrated and collaborative way.
All of us involved in this work - from our funders who generously invest in our efforts, to our "best in class" partner organizations, who encourage their most talented staff to work at BSM for one of more days each week, to our own staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to deliver services to our guests in a trauma-informed way - all of us share a common goal. We are all committed to improving the physical and psychological wellbeing of every homeless and hungry person who crosses our threshold.
The BSM Hospitality Collaborative was created with this goal in mind.
From its earliest beginnings BSM has been focused on providing services that were lacking or insufficient for our guests’ needs. This initiative is another iteration of that goal. By partnering with other non-profits, especially ones with strong reputations and expertise in areas such as health care and housing (where BSM does not have expertise), we are positioned to maintain that focus of doing what we do well - radical hospitality.
Since our partners in the collaborative share so many of our core values, and even as the number of guests who come has increased, we are able to be welcoming to all. This creates an atmosphere of dignity and hospitality (without proselytizing or preaching) that builds community among guests, volunteers and staff.
