Two hours a week can change a life, a family, and a community!
Become a reading tutor to a struggling adult reader. Tutors work each week with their learners to help improve reading skills and increase job opportunities. Each student has an individual learning plan and goals.
Become an English tutor to a small group of nonnative speakers. Tutors work in teams to teach English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills to beginner and intermediate English language learners. A commitment of 2 hours each week is required.
Become a citizenship tutor. Citizenship tutors work one-on-one or with a small group of residents to help them prepare to take the U.S. citizenship test and interview.
Training, materials, and ongoing support are provided for all tutor volunteers!

Mission Statement
Our VISION is a community where adults are empowered by literacy skills to be self-sufficient and to participate in the workforce, education and civic affairs. Our MISSION is to provide needs-based instruction for adults in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County in literacy, English, and citizenship, using trained volunteers.
Description
Skyline Literacy provides one-on-one and small group tutoring to adults who are struggling with speaking, reading, and writing skills. In addition to poor literacy skills, most of Skyline's students are parents who have limited financial resources. Many work shift work in local businesses. Skyline customizes its services to fit students needs and schedules. Since Skyline uses volunteers to provide tutoring as well as many other tasks, students can receive services for a small registration fee of $25. Of course, no student is denied services for lack of payment. Skyline Literacy also provides citizenship, computer literacy, and health literacy classes for the community.
