Volunteers help men and women.
We teach men how to tie a necktie.

We seek volunteers who have experience and qualifications to help mentor clients looking to translate past employment/volunteer experience into relevant job skills for today’s job market. Employment Mentors are individuals who have experience with the job search and/or the hiring process. These volunteers help develop a newly customized resume, elevator speech and master application for each client, identifying quantifiable results from previous employment to showcase each one as an ideal and strong candidate in the current job market.

The ideal Employment Mentor will also possess skills in the job search process including helping the client to; find job leads, navigate through the application process (online and paper), prepare for the interview and complete the post application process.

Description

In 2008, Desert Best Friend’s Closet (DBFC) surveyed human resources representatives from 28 companies in the desert and learned that inappropriately dressed job applicants were a problem in the community. Sixty percent of those surveyed confessed that they judge appearance first and eighty-five percent admitted they hesitate to hire someone who is dressed unprofessionally. Over two-thirds estimate that job applicants do not have the financial resources to buy appropriate interview attire or even know what to wear. As a result, DBFC was created to fill an unmet community need.
