The Nashville International Center for Empowerment needs you! Or someone like you. Can you spread the word?
Encourage academic and personal growth for high school students to help them advance their English language skills, prepare for college and/or entering the workforce prep, and cope with the challenges of fitting into a new environment. The high school program operates Monday through Thursday 8:30am-9: 15am and 4:30-5: 15pm., according to the MNPS calendar.
Volunteers should plan to commit to 1 afternoon weekly for at least 4 months. Volunteers will be placed September through April only. Knowledge of a particular subject (history, algebra, geometry, chemistry, art, english etc.) is appreciated but not required.

Description
The Nashville International Center for Empowerment, formerly the Sudanese Community and Women's Services Center, offers refugees and immigrants who have resettled in Middle Tenessee direct social services designed to ease their transition into their new lives in America. NICE offers classes in English, citizenship, GED, computer, and job training, as well as youth and immigration services. These programs are designed to empower these new Americans to provide for themselves and their families and to become productive members of American society.
