Purpose:
To provide visitors with information that will enrich their visit to the State Capitol (SC) and to Mississippi. Under the purview of the Mississippi Department or Archives and History (MDAH), the guide will provide information that shall educate the public about the historical and architectural aspects of the building, as well as Mississippi’s legislative process.
Volunteers will assist in greeting and signing in visitors, escort visitors to the area where tour will begin, conduct guided tour of the State Capitol Building, and be available for questions until visitiors leave.

Mission Statement
The Mississippi Department of Archives and History was founded in 1902. It is the second-oldest state department of archives and history in the country. A comprehensive historical agency, the department collects, preserves, and provides access to the archival resources of the state, administers museums and historic sites, and oversees statewide programs for historic preservation, government records management, and publications.
Description
The department comprises five divisions--Administration, Archives and Records Services, Historic Preservation, Historic Properties, and Museum. The department is headquartered in the state-of-the-art William F. Winter Archives and History Building, located at North and Amite Streets in downtown Jackson. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
