Bereavement Telephone Assurance Program (BTAP) is a program where family members or caregivers receive a phone call by a trained volunteer or staff member one month after the death. The purpose of these calls are to provide condolences and ascertain:
- If a referral is needed to the bereavement department for additional grief support
- Whether the caregiver/family had concerns about the VITAS service their patient received that can be addressed prior to the caregiver receiving the CAHPS survey.
- BTAP volunteers/staff make phone calls at home or at the VITAS office, insuring privacy and a quiet environment
- Being a BTAP volunteer is right for you if...
- You enjoy talking on the phone
- You want to volunteer from your home (or office)
- You have a busy schedule but can fit in a few phone calls
- You want to provide meaningful support to bereaved individuals
- You want to be the "eyes and ears" of the team, identifying caregivers who have unresolved concerns about the care their patient received.
