CASA for Children is a non-profit charitable organization that works through professionally trained and supervised volunteers to promote the welfare of foster children in Monmouth County, New Jersey who have been removed from their homes because of extreme parental abuse, neglect, or abandonment. CASA serves as a child's "Voice in Court", working to ensure that needed services and assistance are provided while helping to move the child toward a safe and permanent home.
Volunteers will be screened (fingerprinted and interviewed) before beginning an intensive training program. After volunteers complete training, they will be assigned either one child or a set of siblings. They will review DCP&P documents and interview the child(ren), relatives, teachers, and others who may have an impact on the child's life. Volunteers will then write reports which are submitted to the family court judge. They will also be asked to attend court hearings. Each volunteer is requested to make a minimum one-year commitment to their child(ren).

Mission Statement
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Monmouth County is a non-profit organization that advocates for abused and neglected children, within the court system, that are in out of home placement. CASA of Monmouth County provides a corps of trained volunteers that work to ensure that needed services and assistance are made available to children in placement while helping them move toward safe and permanent homes.
Description
After completing a 30-hour training program, volunteers are sworn in by a Monmouth County Family Court Judge. A CASA volunteer is then assigned to an abuse or neglect case by the Court. After conducting a thorough investigation of the case and interviewing those involved, he/she reports this information to the Court and makes recommendations in the best interest of the child. CASA volunteers come from all walks of life (educational, ethnic, and social). Many work full time and no prior experience is necessary. On average a CASA volunteer devotes 5 to 15 hours a month to their particular case.
