What is Yarnstorming? It's an international movement that adds beauty to urban settings with colorful yarn. Sometimes called Yarnbombing, people find a site they want to beautify, and wrap bridges, signposts, trees, statues, etc. as temporary public art projects, using crocheted or knitted squares, circles, etc. made out of yarn. Even though most yarnstormers are younger, here in Las Vegas, the most established group of Yarnstormers are women in their 50's-80's, who are based at the West Flamingo Senior Cente! The most visable and well publicized of their projects is the large crocheted sunrise, which was installed on the pedestrian bridge over Maryland Parkway, June 2012. Now the seniors need donations of yarn, fleece fabric in blues and yellows, and pre-made granny squares. Drop off donations from M-F, 9-5, at 6255 W. Flamingo Rd., near Jones.
