Tutor & Student @ Metro

Chicago low-income students need you! Students who attend Metro self-report growth in confidence, friendship, and leadership skills AND 95% of students who attend Metro get accepted into college prep high schools, 100% are accepted to college, and 92% graduate college.

But, they need a one-on-one tutor-mentor to help them in their homework and goal-setting to achieve their dreams. You can be the difference in helping them achieve their potential!

Support students in elementary and middle school, finishing high school, and going on to college. Volunteers come one night a week to work with the same student(s), helping them on their homework, working with the students' parents and the staff to create a community support network.

Mission Statement

Midtown Educational Foundation (MEF) is a nonprofit organization with an award-winning approach aimed to develop the whole person. MEF guides low-income urban youth in Chicago along pathways of success. Our proven enrichment programs embrace the dignity of the person by focusing on academic excellence, virtue development, individual attention, and parental engagement.

Description

MEF operates through its Metro Achievement Center for girls and Midtown Center for boys in grades 4 - 12. Programs focus on Hispanic and African American youth, offering after-school and summertime growth opportunities that help students of average academic ability to achieve above-average results. MEF’s approach can be remembered with the help of an acronym that also describes every child it serves: "A V.I.P." The "A" stands for ACADEMICS. The "V" stands for basic VIRTUES. The "I" stands for INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION. The "P" stands for PARENTS. MEF operates on the principle that parents are the primary educators of their children.

For the past 19 years, we've had 95% of our students attend college prep high schools and 100% be accepted into college, with 92% retention in college. Help us continue the trend! Be a tutor, role model, and mentor at Metro Achievement Center for girls or Midtown Center for boys!

  • Volunteer tutor-mentor 2 hours once a week at our center, helping a student with their homework and goal-setting.
  • Build a unique relationship with the same student one-on-one.
  • No experience necessary! Tutor training available.
