Volunteers - we have a cadre of volunteer leader naturalists and hikers who enjoy sharing their knowledge and love of the outdoors - become one of them. They make a difference in the lives of countless students and wheelchair users by sharing their love of the outdoors.

Lead or assist with a K-12 outdoor field trip or wheelchair trips using Freedom Trax. Group sizes are small, with a student-volunteer ratio of ten students to two volunteers, and usually one additional adult (teacher or parent). Wheelchair trips' ratio is even smaller with two or three wheelchair users to one volunteer. Naturalist knowledge a plus but not necessary - learn as you go and help students appreciate our natural world.

Volunteers have the opportunity to:

  • Hike trails not open to the public,
  • Receive a modest stipend for field trips,
  • Expand your knowledge by participating in a series of naturalist classes and workshops with renowned naturalists and authors such as John Muir Laws, Jon Young, and more, all at no cost.
  • There are also "back office" volunteer opportunities to support our mission.

Mission Statement

NatureTrack Foundation's mission is to foster a lifelong fascination with nature and inspire respectful stewardship of our natural world.

Description

We provide K-12 students, along with wheelchair users and others with physical disabilities of all ages, the opportunity to experience, explore, and learn from nature at no cost to schools or participants. Since our founding in 2011, more than 25,000 students have participated in NatureTrack field trips. Since launching our wheelchair program in 2021, more than 100 wheelchair users have enjoyed exploring our beautiful beaches and trails.

K-12 trips are fun, engaging for students, and meet school curriculum requirements, fulfilling NatureTrack’s mission of preparing students with the attitudes, leadership skills, and habits for lifelong learning and inspiring them to embrace our natural world with respect and wonderment.

NatureTrack strives to create stewards of our natural world by exposing as many people as possible to the outdoors and encouraging them to enjoy what nature offers.
