Calvary Women’s Services offers housing, health, employment and education programs that empower homeless women in Washington, DC to change their lives. Founded in 1983, our programs carry out our mission to offer "a safe, caring place for tonight; support, hope and change for tomorrow." Overnight volunteers play an important role in carrying out Calvary’s mission by ensuring the residents have a safe and secure night every night.
Overnight volunteers pair up with a Calvary staff member to guarantee a smooth and quite night. Volunteers arrive at 9 pm and are responsible for setting out breakfast, welcoming residents arriving late from work or school, and doing a final walkthrough of the facility. In the morning, volunteers facilitate breakfast for residents and make sure clients are up and ready for the day before heading out at 7 am.
