UCSD Hearts & Hands Volunteer Doula Program

Trained birth assistants (doulas) accompany women through childbirth, providing continuous non-medical physical care and comfort to the birthing mother. Doulas also lend a helping hand with communications between the mother, her family and medical staff.

We serve families at both the Hillcrest and La Jolla hospital facilities of the UCSD Health System.

To work within the UC San Diego Medical Center's patient care team as volunteer birth assistants who provide non-clinical support in accordance with each mother's preferences during her childbirth. - and - To be a widely regarded, sustainable program model shown to enhance clinical outcomes and increase patient satisfaction.
