Riders in the Queue

Transportation Alternatives (T.A.) is holding the 29th Annual NYC Century Bike Tour on September 9th, 2018. With multiple routes of 15, 35, 55, 75 and 100 miles, to accommodate all skill levels from tricycles to time-trialists, the Century is always a wonderful event that brings together the NYC bicycling community to enjoy our great city. With thousands of cyclists hitting the streets, T.A. is seeking volunteers to help us make the day a success. With rest stops in each of the boroughs, help is needed in YOUR neighborhood.

All volunteer duties are extremely safe and simple, including setting up/breaking down tents, checking riders in for the tour, and distributing food/water -- a great opportunity for families to come out and have fun by helping the community. There are several 4-5 hours shifts throughout the day, an easy commitment given you will be working in some of NYC's finest parks! We also have opportunities that will allow you to ride the tour itself by volunteering as a bike marshal.

All volunteers are entitled to an official Tour t-shirt and snacks will also be provided. For more information, please see www.nyccentury.org.

About Transportation Alternatives

Location:

127 W 26th St #1002, New York, NY 10001, US

Mission Statement

Reclaim New York City's streets from the automobile and promote bicycling, walking and public transit as better transportation alternatives.

Description

With 100,000 active supporters and a committee of activists working locally in every borough, TransAlt fights for the installation of infrastructure improvements that reduce speeding and traffic crashes, save lives and improve everyday transportation for all New Yorkers.

Since our founding in 1973, T.A. has paved the way for remarkable changes in New York City’s transportation infrastructure: the extraordinary growth of bicycling, the launch of Citi Bike and the introduction of innovations to city streets, like Complete Streets, parking-protected bike lanes, automated speed enforcement cameras, public plazas, Select Bus Service and Neighborhood Slow Zones, and much more.

Right now, Transportation Alternatives activists are leading the fight to improve infrastructure for bicycling and walking on scores of local streets and to change traffic enforcement policy and practices citywide. The goal is to achieve Vision Zero -- the elimination of traffic deaths and serious injuries on New York City’s streets.
