ORGANIZATION: International Relief Teams

Feb 2017 Team
completed home from Feb 2017 team

51.3% of people in Mexico live in poverty and do not have enough resources to meet basic needs of food, shelter, education, clothing or public transportation. Just across the border in Tijuana and Tecate, many families live in shacks and improvised shelters with dirt floors and no electricity or plumbing. By volunteering for this project, you can help change a family’s life in a profound and significant way in just one day. You can give them shelter, security, and perhaps more importantly, hope for a brighter future.

IRT is partnering with Project Mercy, a non-profit organization that for the past 25 years has been helping to build strong communities and promote self- sufficiency in marginalized areas of Mexico.

There will be a total of 25 volunteers per build team. Team members will meet at 5:30 a.m. at the IRT office in Mission Valley.Team members must 12 years or older. We will have a brief meeting and then board a bus, provided by IRT, to transport us to the work site. With a full day of construction and the border crossing, we anticipate our arrival back in Mission Valley at approximately 7:00 p.m. A passport card or combination of passport and Sentri card or passport and Global entry card is a requirement. If you do not have a passport card, you will need to get one. The passport card is $30 and to help mitigate this cost, IRT is reducing your team fee from $50 to $20. The passport card will help reduce the border crossing time back into the United States.
