The Animal Protection League (APL) is a local non-profit pet rescue shelter. Come out to our shelter and spend some time with our cats and/ or our dogs. We have cats and dogs of all ages and sizes, and some of them have been with us their whole lives. We are a no-kill shelter so we continue to care for the animals even if they aren't adopted. We're always looking for people to come and spend extra time volunteering out at the shelter for time with the animals or on one project or another... ask us how you can help!

Mission Statement

The mission of the Animal Protection League of SC (APL) is to provide a safe haven for our community's abused and abandoned dogs and cats, with the goal of rehabilitating them and finding them permanent, loving homes.

Description

APL is a local non-profit humane organization founded in 1982 by concerned individuals who love and respect animals. Because we are a "no-kill" rescue shelter, all animals accepted into our care remain under the stewardship of the APL until they are adopted. We will consider euthanasia only when it is recommended by a veterinarian to relieve an animal's suffering due to irreversible injury, illness, or disease.

The APL encourages and promotes spaying and neutering as the only effective approach to reducing the pet overpopulation problem. In compliance with state law and as a matter of principle, the APL spays and neuters all pets prior to adoption. The APL provides lost and found services and educates the public on the proper care of animals through printed materials and educational activities. The APL pursues all reports of abuse, neglect, or cruelty and cooperates with law enforcement in the investigation and prosecution of such cases.
