Literacy Achieves

At Literacy Achieves (founded as Vickery Meadow Learning Center) we teach over 1000 adult students English as a Second Language (ESL) every year. Our students come from over 40 countries and want to learn English to get a better job, become more involved with their children’s education, navigate health and community resources, and more.

During the school year (September-December and January-April) volunteers teach once a week for two hours in our morning, afternoon or evening programs. Our spring semester runs January 22 through April 26. Volunteer orientations are scheduled for December 14, January 4, and January 10.

We provide all the training/materials/curriculum and try to place two teachers in every classroom. We offer daytime classes at our three campuses in Dallas. We offer evening classes at our Vickery Meadow and West Dallas campuses.

Our campuses are located in East, West, and Northeast Dallas:

ELM-East Dallas: 629 N. Peak St. Dallas, TX 75243

West Dallas: 1018 Gallagher St. Dallas, TX 75212

Vickery Meadow: 6329 Ridgecrest Rd. Dallas, TX 75231

If you can’t commit for the classroom, we also have volunteer positions for enrichment teachers, subs, tutors, office help, computer lab teachers and more. We will cover all of that at a volunteer orientation. Please visit our website at www.literacyachieves.org to get more information about what we do and check out our videos there!
