Antelope Park Lion Breeding & Rehabilitation Project

Volunteer on a world first lion breeding and rehabilitation project, supported by some of the worlds leading ecologists in the field. We invite you to walk with African Lions, to be involved in our in-depth research and data-collection activities and to help rehabilitate lions back into their natural environment. Spending time with the lions in the wild each day is an essential part of the cubs upbringing. If the cubs are to be successfully released it is important that they spend time out in a natural environment. They need to adapt to it, learn from it, understand, observe, feel and smell the wild.

As part of this 4-step programme, we are breeding and building prides with good blood lines who will learn to live in a semi-wild environment. The offspring on these prides will eventually be released into the wild, never having had human contact, and it is this 4 -stage programme which is unique in the field. Join our team of professional guides and other dedicated volunteers, gain a deeper understanding of the King of Beasts and assist us in gathering vital information that will facilitate their eventual release.

Bulawayo Wildlife Rescue Sanctuary

Get up-close and personal with a host of animals in one of Zimbabwe’s oldest wildlife sanctuaries. Established in 1973, the centre was established to offer a home and help for orphaned, abandoned and sick wild animals, as well as relocating animals that are reported to be causing a nuisance and in danger of getting shot by farmers or communities. From lions and leopards to monkeys, antelope and birds, wherever possible the animals are rehabilitated and returned to the wild. When safe release into their natural habitat is not possible, then the animals are cared for and used for educational purposes, zoological study or in the case of endangered species, introduced to breeding programmes.

Victoria Falls Lion Rehabilitation Project

See the real Africa by volunteering in Zimbabwe on our lion rehabilitation project in Victoria Falls. You will have the chance to walk alongside lions, work on the worlds leading program for the release of lions back into the wild and engage with conservation - a growing subject of interest both in terms of the preservation of and education to local children. You will also be able to undertake research into lion behaviour and ecology. During your time in the park, you will have the opportunity to go in search of Africa's big game, including elephants, buffalo, antelope and cheetah! Your time will be spent wisely, with a huge program of activities scheduled for your time in the bush. With our Lion Rehabilitation Project, you are guaranteed an active and exhilarating journey.

Mission Statement

Kaya's mission is to promote sustainable social, environmental and economic development, empower communities and cultivate educated, compassionate global citizens through responsible travel.

Description

Responsible travel is about seeing the world in a manner that most respects and benefits local people, culture and the environment - it's travel in the real world, not tourism.

Every year thousands of people travel the globe looking to explore new environment and experience different cultures, with a spirit of adventure and a desire to learn more about the world.

As global travel becomes more accessible, and we look to visit further and more exotic locations, we often discover that the real world is not always easy to uncover, and often visitors don't get a chance to see beyond the window that tourism can offer.

As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to become a real part of the environments, lives and communities of the world's developing nations. And whether you chose to work on projects that benefit the wildlife, the environment or the people, you come away knowing that your being there has positively impacted those you have visited.

At Kaya, we pride ourselves on delivering only what is best for our volunteers and best for the communities which we are working with. You will find many volunteer organizations to chose between today, and many of these are also offering great placements around the world. But we believe that no-one works closer with their volunteers and with the receiving communities on the ground to make sure everyone can achieve the greatest benefits that volunteering has to offer.

For those of you who have skills that can benefit the projects, and even if you are looking to develop your professional skills in a developing country, your help is invaluable and Kaya staff will work with you to ensure your role matches your skill.

Internships, group ventures and specialist projects can be arranged by request.
