Equine Therapy for Disabled Children in Cape Town

Volunteer abroad on our specialized project and help to provide equine therapy to disabled children in South Africa. This incredibly unique and highly sought after project, works to aid children with very little mobility by giving them the chance to experience freedom in their limbs through horseback riding. With the assistance of volunteers and trained instructors, disabled children can have access to free therapy sessions, helping them to develop their motor skills while increasing their confidence and strength

Medical & HIV/Aids Awareness Programme

Volunteer in South Africa on our medical and HIV Awareness project which works on a number of community initiatives in the St Lucia region. Embrace the opportunity to work with local nurses in a small, but very busy, rural clinic and to go on home care visits which support around 20,000 Zulu people living in the communities around St. Lucia. Alongside this you will also join an AIDS awareness program educating and encouraging prevention, while supporting those affected.

Teaching and Community Project in Cape Town

Become a teaching volunteer in South Africa and provide teaching support in the community of Red Hill, on the outskirts of Cape Town. You will be based in one of three small pre-schools in this disadvantaged community. Each of these schools works with limited resources to teach children up to the age of 6 and provide them with a safe and enriching learning environment. Where possible, the schools also provide nutrition through school meals.

Sports Coaching and Community Work in Cape Town

Our sports project will enable you to volunteer in South Africa in the township of Masiphumelele, which has in excess of 35,000 residents. We work with a local primary, Xhosa speaking school with over 1300 pupils and only 30 teachers. PE lessons are held in the morning, but with class sizes that can be more than 50 pupils, the teachers find it hard to coach and keep control of the class, and provide extra help for those less naturally skilled or struggling with technique. Sports lessons at the school are between 08:30 - 12:30. Each class of 40-45 pupils has 30 minutes of PE during this period. With only one sports teacher to coordinate this, volunteer support is very much welcomed.

Small Business Development Internship in Africa

Bring your business skills and study experience and join a small business development internship in South Africa to extend your CV/Resume while developing the capacity of a social enterprise. There are many small businesses in Africa that are looking for the support of interns or professionals to share their ideas and time, in exchange for providing a hands on experience of the challenges they face everyday. Whether it is HR, finance, policies or marketing that interest you, small businesses always appreciate new ideas and support with their activities. Join us in either South Africa or Swaziland at a social enterprise and learn how entrepreneurship can help develop your future, as well as those of small businesses in Africa.

Mission Statement

Kaya's mission is to promote sustainable social, environmental and economic development, empower communities and cultivate educated, compassionate global citizens through responsible travel.

Description

Responsible travel is about seeing the world in a manner that most respects and benefits local people, culture and the environment - it's travel in the real world, not tourism.

Every year thousands of people travel the globe looking to explore new environment and experience different cultures, with a spirit of adventure and a desire to learn more about the world.

As global travel becomes more accessible, and we look to visit further and more exotic locations, we often discover that the real world is not always easy to uncover, and often visitors don't get a chance to see beyond the window that tourism can offer.

As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to become a real part of the environments, lives and communities of the world's developing nations. And whether you chose to work on projects that benefit the wildlife, the environment or the people, you come away knowing that your being there has positively impacted those you have visited.

At Kaya, we pride ourselves on delivering only what is best for our volunteers and best for the communities which we are working with. You will find many volunteer organizations to chose between today, and many of these are also offering great placements around the world. But we believe that no-one works closer with their volunteers and with the receiving communities on the ground to make sure everyone can achieve the greatest benefits that volunteering has to offer.

For those of you who have skills that can benefit the projects, and even if you are looking to develop your professional skills in a developing country, your help is invaluable and Kaya staff will work with you to ensure your role matches your skill.

Internships, group ventures and specialist projects can be arranged by request.
