Sports Development and Rural Community Work
Share your energy and skills on this project focused on sports and community volunteering in Zambia. The project team support the belief that sport is an essential and effective tool to teach various subjects such as HIV, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Working within primary schools, with sports teams for teenagers in the community and as part of a wider community outreach, this project provides the social and physical benefits of sport alongside an important educational tool. Children are also reminded about the importance of teamwork, trying their best, not cheating and listening.
Teaching and Community Work
Volunteering with us for teaching and community work in Zambia on a project at a number of community schools in the local area where large class numbers and just a small number of teachers means that children struggle and are unable to get help. The schools want to be able to do more, but without funding cannot bring in additional staff or create additional resources. The project collaborates with the local Department of Education ensuring that project activities are in line with local needs and solutions include classroom assistance, preparing materials, building and refurbishing school facilities as well as after school activities. Recently teacher development has been identified as a priority for the project and experienced volunteers are helping to develop the skills of locally qualified teachers, aiming to improve the ongoing quality of education.
