The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) would love for your family, school and/or company to help Houston-area families with food assistance. We serve over 350 families at each of our drive thru food fairs on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Saturdays.
The SVDP Food Network needs donated nutritious, non-perishable foods:
- Meals in a can (stew, chili, soup)
- Tuna and canned meat
- Foods with pop-top lids for the homeless
- Low-sugar cereals
- 100% fruit juices in single serving boxes
- Canned vegetables (low salt)
- Paper products (toilet paper, paper towels)
- Dish Soap and Laundry Soap
We can deliver/pick up a donation tote to your facility for easy collection. Please avoid donating items packaged in glass. If you find glass items in your barrel, please package them in protective boxes to prevent breakage. We request that you do not donate bulk quantities of rice, flour, or sugar.

Mission Statement
Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organizations, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. As a reflection of the whole family of God, members who are known as Vincentians are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group and economic level. Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings and adherence to a basic rule. Organized locally, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving needs and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served, because in them Vincentians see the face of Christ.
Description
What We Do
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been quietly serving the poor in Galveston-Houston since 1871 regardless of race, creed, age or status. The members of the Society provide Assistance. This may include food, clothing, furniture, rent, utility, medicine, transportation or emotional and spiritual support. St. Vincent de Paul Food Network supports the John L. Food Depot, Conferences and Food Pantries to advocate against food insecurity and malnutrition. We provide perishable and nonperishable food items, special diet items, and household goods; such as paper products, baby items and hygiene necessities, to our friends in need. Vincentian Services provide a wide range of direct aid to those in need to eliminate service gaps in our community. The ultimate goal is to meet emergency or basic needs, keep families together by preventing homelessness and promote self-sufficiency.
The St. Vincent de Paul Resale Stores provide free gently used and some new clothing, furniture and household items to the needy through the Voucher System. The general public can shop for those items at an affordable cost which supports the works of the Society. Ozanam Donation and Distribution Center offers gently used donated furniture to the needy free of charge through the Voucher System. The Ozanam Donation and Distribution Center receives, sorts, stores and distributes donated and purchased goods, including new beds and dining sets.
