Donate your time, talent and special skills to Autism Service Dogs of America (ASDA). ASDA is a local nonprofit with a great group of dog lovers who work hard to fulfill our mission - to make a positive impact on the lives of children living with autism--and their families--by providing exceptionally well trained service dogs.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help raise our service dogs!
Why raise an ASDA puppy or service dog? Your first answer might be, "because dogs are so cuddly, adorable and fun!" And you're right--dogs are terribly cute, and raising an ASDA puppy or dog is a lot of fun. Raising a future service dog also takes time, patience and commitment. Our volunteers all share one trait in common: they are willing to devote the time, energy and love necessary to socialize a puppy.
Carefully-selected volunteers ensure that ASDA dogs are properly socialized and well-mannered. The dogs need exposure to all types of people and all kinds of environments, active as well as quiet. Dogs need consistent training, exercise, rest, and patient handling. Although there is a lot of work involved in raising an ASDA dog, the rewards are tremendous. By raising an ASDA dog, you will make a huge difference in the quality of life for a child with autism and his or her family.
If this sounds like something you are interested in learning more about, please respond via email and tell us a little bit about yourself and your family, your job, your experience with dogs, and any other important information related to becoming a volunteer for ASDA.
Without our volunteers, our program would not be possible. Thank you for your interest!

Mission Statement
Our mission at Autism Service Dogs of America (ASDA) is to make a positive impact on the lives of children living with autism--and their families--by providing exceptionally well trained service dogs.
Description
Our service dogs provide a physical and emotional anchor for children with autism. With their child tethered to a service dog, families feel they are newly freed to engage in activities as simple as going out to eat. When out in the community, a service dog can increase safety and make families feel secure. In many cases, the service dog accompanies the child to school, where its calming presence can minimize and often eliminate emotional outbursts, enabling the child to more fully participate in his or her school day. Transitioning among school day activities is eased and the service dog provides a focus through which the child can interact with other children. This helps increase the opportunity for the child to develop social and language skills.
