Become a local naturalist and help teachers and Yolo Basin Foundation staff with the Discover the Flyway school program.
Activities are held outside and teach children about wetlands, wildlife, and human history in the Sacramento Valley. The program operates mid-September to early June.
Discover the Flyway Docents:
- Volunteer Tuesday through Friday, from approximately 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Commit to 3 to 4 hours twice a month, or more if able to
- Lead hands-on activities with groups of up to ten students
- Assist staff with student walks at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area
- Assist with field supplies and help develop program tools
Any member of the public with a passion for conservation, a desire to learn more about the local wetlands, and an enthusiasm for sharing this with kindergarten through 12th-grade students is invited to sign up for Discover the Flyway docent training.
Training consists of five training sessions: September 5, 7, 11, 13, & 15 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Description
The Discover the Flyway program trains 75-100 teachers annually and hosts daily classroom field trips to accommodate 4000 students annually to the Yolo Wildlife Area.
