Helping Our Neightbors in Need

Some people don't see how stocking shelves can help our community, but they aren't seeing our community shopping from those shelves with dignity, that's because of our Stockers.

The persons performing this job will arrive before the Pantry opens to organize available resources for distribution to customers. Stockers will check in with Pantry staff to determine tasks to be performed during a shift. The stocking crew will have the Pantry supplied, reorganized and cleaned by the start of each day of Pantry operation.

Stocker tasks may include:

  • restocking shelves with canned and dry goods from reserve supplies
  • restocking freezers and coolers
  • receiving, preparing and stocking donations of produce, bakery and perishable food
    • disposing of spoiled and unusable items
    • disposing of boxes
    • communicating problems to the Pantry Staff
    • cleaning and mopping spills

Requirements:

  • be able to lift and carry at least 35 pounds of grocery items
  • be able work standing and walking for the majority of the scheduled shift.
  • be familiar with and willing to use appropriate food-handling and safety practices.

About St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry

Location:

Food Pantry and Service Center, 2033 Fish Hatchery Road, Madison, WI 53713, US

Mission Statement

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is committed to "helping our neighbors in need" in Dane County effectively, efficiently and compassionately - and without regard for religion, race, or ethnic background - through our services and care provided to those in our community who are needy, suffering or forgotten.

Description

Services include assistance through our food pantry - Dane County's busiest - and help with prescriptions, utilities, furniture, clothing and housing. The Society operates seven thrift stores that offer clothes, furniture, and household items at reasonable prices. Proceeds from sales of these donated goods help fund the charitable work of the Society, making St. Vincent de Paul one of the most cost-effective providers of services to Dane County's low-income population. On the basis of vouchers issued at our Service Center, our stores also do a great deal of direct charity through distribution of furniture, bedding, clothing and household necessities.
