Art from Ashes (AfA) is seeking a volunteer with solid writing skills for up to 4 hours per week of on-site or remote technical writing for grant applications; primarily for General Operating Expense grants from private foundations. Volunteer will be required to participate in the AfA volunteer orientation program, 'ArtCurious Tour,’ to get the best sense of the organization as whole prior to joining the grant team.
Art from Ashes is an award winning 501(c)3 nonprofit that has operated in the Denver Metropolitan area and surrounding counties since 2003. AfA collaborates with local institutions that serve high-risk youth to provide interactive creative workshops that empower youth to create positive change in their own lives.
The youth AfA serves are at or below poverty level and typically victims of abuse. AfA believes that these most neglected and vulnerable members of our communities build identities as they develop that are based on negative experiences and circumstances, and that negative identities are a root cause of violent and other anti-social behavior. We offer an opportunity for struggling youth to recognize an identity that is not based on negative circumstance, but rather innate creativity, which empowers youth to take control of their own minds, choose positive behaviors, and generate progressive change in their own communities.

Mission Statement
The Mission of Art from Ashes is to empower struggling youth by providing creative programs that facilitate health and hope through expression, connection and transformation.
Description
Since its inception in 2003, Art from Ashes (AfA) has provided creative empowerment workshops to high-risk youth, facilitating expression, connection and transformation among the most neglected and vulnerable segments of our community. AfA’s creative programs use the combination of creativity and neurology to provide workshops that not only offer young people access to the arts and to their creative power, but in doing so also address risk factors among struggling young people. Our foundational program, Phoenix Rising, uses poetry and spoken word to empower young people through the language of metaphor. Other programs include Drawing on Air, Casting Shadows and Wingspan. To date, AfA has provided creative workshops with more than 150 partnering organizations for more than 11,000 young people who have survived traumatic events, are victims of abuse, neglect and/or poverty, and are at risk for or engaged in destructive behaviors.
