2013 Internships & Volunteer Opportunities - Social Media Representative

YesLiberia is looking for a talented group of volunteers for the summer/fall of 2012. Ideally, we are looking for motivated and independent self-starters able to dive head first into a variety of tasks. We have a variety of positions available, ranging from: grant writers, social media positions, video producing & editing, web developers and school representatives. Internships with YesLiberia will offer you the chance for college credit, to gain experience working for a non-profit and a great chance to network. See below for more information!

Term

The commitment must last through summer but we are keen to hire motivated individuals who are willing to help out in the long term. All we ask is for a time commitment of 5-10 hours per week.

Location

Interns will work remotely via online connection. However, each intern should be available for weekly check-in’s and group meetings.

Credit? Yes!

What You’ll Get in Return

YesLiberia is a growing educational non-profit, dedicated to the mission of improving the fortunes of marginalized youth in Liberia. We work to provide tuition assistance, medical health, sanitation, and are working to provide library facilities within Liberia. You will receive the exciting experience of working in a growing non-profit organization where every individual must push themselves in a dynamic work environment. A fantastic opportunity where you will be helping yourself and others at the same time!

Specifics of the Position - Social Media Intern

YesLiberia is growing and we want our online presence to reflect that. We are looking for an independent individual willing to represent us online, through:

  • Posting Twitter updates
  • Managing our Facebook profile
  • Maintaining our YouTube presence
  • Reading and following other educational organizations online to build relationships
We want someone who can manage these duties with little or no supervision. The position is mostly online, so we ask that the intern be available to meet for meetings and correspond through email.

For Consideration

If seriously interested, please send us a cover letter and a resume. In your cover letter we want to find out about your motivations to work with YesLiberia as well as how you think you can help. If you lack experience, but have desire, please apply! If interested, please send all of your information to vcoordinator@yesliberia.org with the position of interest highlighted in the subject.

Also, if you have any questions regarding the position or YesLiberia’s work, don’t hesitate to contact!

About YesLiberia

Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower young people through meaningful service learning opportunities in education, healthcare, and technology. We do this through strategic partnerships and learning models to utilize existing youth habits and uphold societal values in the communities we work.

Description

Conviction created YesLiberia. Daily the needs of underprivileged are ignored. We ignore their struggles because it’s easier to deal with the more important things in our lives-- like climbing the corporate ladder and saving money so we don’t become indigent. And some of us ignore their challenges because they bring back unpleasant memories we seek to repress. But disregarding the plight of the underprivileged yields no resolution. Then certain things happen to remind us their struggles exist no matter how hard we try to pretend our needs surpass theirs.

Jallah was convicted by several of those things over a short period of time. The prostitution of children in Thailand reminded him of Liberia. The rape and war in Congo reminded him of Liberia. The genocide in Rwanda reminded him of Liberia. He remembered his underprivileged past--a past where he was seen as less than elite based on his tribal and economic status and where his education came as a gift from the United Methodist Church.

Reminded, he became convicted to act and YesLiberia was founded to educate and help underprivileged Liberians whose plight he intimately understood.

YesLiberia is a 501c3 charity organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service since July 2009. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law. YesLiberia is also registered at four government agencies in Liberia.
