Build a Sustainable Home for Orphans

By volunteering in Belize get involved in a home building project to give back to orphaned communities in need of support, encouragement, respect and love. This is a self-sustainable community farm dedicated to the promotion of self reliance, harmonious living and above all, providing a safe, stable and healthy home for abused and orphaned children whom law dictates, must leave the orphan system at only16 years of age. Volunteer work in Belize for this orphanage development project is bringing a sense of community to the children abandoned by the legal system while immersing them in inspiring sustainability initiatives helping to preserve local resources enabling the community to be financially independent. Importantly, this farm aims to become a transition model to inspire other community building and sustainable farming initiatives throughout Belize.

Family Volunteering: Building and Organic Farming in Belize

Bring your family to Belize and join us on this farming and building project for disadvantaged teenagers. Building work can be some of the most rewarding volunteer work you can do as a family, because it leads to tangible results which children in particular like to see. Working in a team, learning about eco-friendly construction techniques and organic farming in the friendly environment of a community farm in Belize, will be fun for all the family.
In Belize, the law states that orphaned children must leave the system at only 16 years of age. This means that many children face life on the streets and are unprepared for the reality of supporting themselves. This initiative offers a half-way house, acting as a safe environment for children to have shelter and work on the farm, learning techniques that they can use to find employment when they move on. The farm is self-sustainable and dedicated to the promotion of self reliance, harmonious living and above all, providing a safe, stable and healthy home.

Christmas Volunteering Building a Home for Orphaned Teenagers in Belize

Spend December this year doing something different and spend Christmas volunteering building a home for orphaned teenagers in Belize. You will learn traditional and sustainable building methods and contribute to the futures of children and young female adults in Belize. You will use sustainable resources such as sandbag walls and reed composting.

The home is located on a self-sustainable community farm dedicated to the promotion of self reliance and harmonious living. Above all, you will help to provide a safe, stable and healthy home for abused and orphaned children. Children and young adults are referred to the project by the policy and Social Services Departments when it is deemed that they have nowhere else to go.
By focusing on this project at Christmas time the Project hopes to drive forward this initiative to completion and enable 10 young girls to move in. Once that phase is completed the project will be able to move on to the second phase of its development, which is a children’s home for abandoned and abused children. Help give the children and teenagers a safe home, and the promise of a brighter future in the New Year.

Mission Statement

Kaya's mission is to promote sustainable social, environmental and economic development, empower communities and cultivate educated, compassionate global citizens through responsible travel.

Description

Responsible travel is about seeing the world in a manner that most respects and benefits local people, culture and the environment - it's travel in the real world, not tourism.

Every year thousands of people travel the globe looking to explore new environment and experience different cultures, with a spirit of adventure and a desire to learn more about the world.

As global travel becomes more accessible, and we look to visit further and more exotic locations, we often discover that the real world is not always easy to uncover, and often visitors don't get a chance to see beyond the window that tourism can offer.

As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to become a real part of the environments, lives and communities of the world's developing nations. And whether you chose to work on projects that benefit the wildlife, the environment or the people, you come away knowing that your being there has positively impacted those you have visited.

At Kaya, we pride ourselves on delivering only what is best for our volunteers and best for the communities which we are working with. You will find many volunteer organizations to chose between today, and many of these are also offering great placements around the world. But we believe that no-one works closer with their volunteers and with the receiving communities on the ground to make sure everyone can achieve the greatest benefits that volunteering has to offer.

For those of you who have skills that can benefit the projects, and even if you are looking to develop your professional skills in a developing country, your help is invaluable and Kaya staff will work with you to ensure your role matches your skill.

Internships, group ventures and specialist projects can be arranged by request.
