Use your creative side to contribute to self-determination and economic development by and for the African community! Help design flyers, posters, postcards and pamphlets to help spread the word about Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles and our fundraising efforts for the African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF.org).

We're a perfect fit for experienced graphic design volunteers looking to build their portfolio while supporting a great cause. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to train on software or design and therefore do not offer internships at this time.

Our project availability depends on our current needs and we develop lasting relationships with design professionals, so we do not have the ability to provide projects to individuals in need of a specific amount of community service hours guaranteed within a defined time frame.

We prefer working with volunteers local to the greater Philadelphia area.

Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles is located at 832 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19130. We hold volunteer orientations every Thursday night from 5-6pm on the second floor of our store. You can come into the store to sign up for the volunteer orientation, or you can email us at uhurufurniturephilly@yahoo.com . You can also check out our blog uhurufurniturephilly.blogspot.com for new items and volunteer projects. We're open 6 days a week from 11am-6pm, every day except Monday!

Mission Statement

Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a project of the African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF). APEDF strives to develop and institutionalize programs to defend the human and civil rights of the African community, and to address the grave disparities in education, health, healthcare, and economic development of the African community.

Description

Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a non-profit store that is a fundraiser for black community empowerment programs of APEDF. We receive a truck load of donated furniture and household items every day. This is a lively, popular Philadelphia store staffed mostly by volunteers. When you volunteer at Uhuru Furniture, you not only contribute to the success of the store, you become part of a larger movement for peace through social justice. People shop at Uhuru Furniture for low priced, top quality items and to support crucial programs for social justice for African people.
