Mission Statement
Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident with a curriculum that incorporates running. We know that physical activity and fitness can empower young girls to grow into strong, confident and healthy women. GOTR provides an uplifting and noncompetitive introduction to running and walking and what we hope will be a lifelong commitment to health and wellness. GOTR combines exercise, education and mentoring to promote character and confidence in young girls. GOTR uses the power of running and play to change the way girls see themselves and their opportunities. Innovative games and activities teach valuable lessons about teamwork, communication, goal-setting, positive thinking and perseverance. Participants train to run/walk a 5K as the culmination of the program. Crossing the finish line is an unforgettable and life-affirming experience for those involved.
Description
Fall and Spring Sessions
Girls on the Run teams meet twice weekly after school for two months to train for a 5K run/walk. Sessions begin in August and February. Life-skills lessons are incorporated with the physical training, so girls get much more than exercise.
Who We Are
Girls on the Run of Nebraska is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers. Many of our coaches are teachers, parents, college students and mature high school students. We're always looking for like-minded people who want to empower girls with exercise and education. Please contact us to donate time, talent or money to the program.
Coaches
Coaches are needed for fall and spring sessions. Each session requires a 30- to 40-hour time commitment over 14 to 16 weeks. Training is provided. Coaching a Girls on the Run team is a highly rewarding and impactful volunteer activity for the time involved.
