Volunteer Puppy Raising and Sitting
Canine Partners of the Rockies (a.k.a. "CaPR") is a nonprofit service dog school that raises, trains, and places service dogs throughout Colorado, primarily for either mobility assistance or facility intervention. We are so proud to be able to place dogs with Coloradans with Disabilities at no cost to the individual.
We are always searching for volunteer Puppy Raisers and Sitters to join our extraordinary team. Typically, we ask that Puppy Raisers make a 6 month - 1 year commitment. Sitters care for our dogs on a temporary basis. Here are a few examples of Puppy Raisers’ responsibilities:
- Public socialization (taking the dog on family outings such as grocery shopping, events, etc.)
- Attending weekly training classes at our facility
- Bringing the dog to all necessary vet appointments
- Completing brief monthly reports on the dog’s progress
- Dog food
- Vet bill payments
- Dog crate, leash, and other pet supplies
- Training
- Service-Dog-In-Training vest
If raising isn’t the best fit, but you are still interested in working with our dogs, there are also opportunities to become Puppy Sitters. Puppy Sitters provide temporary care for our dogs in training, anywhere from 10 hours to 10 weeks, depending on the sitter’s individual preferences and the needs of our raisers. The responsibilities of sitters are similar to those of raisers, but only last while the dog is in your care.
