The Eastmont Garden of Hope receives and distributes donated clothing, hygiene products, household items, canned goods, and other necessities to Social Services Agency clients in urgent need year-round. This program serves as many as 400 households monthly. Whether providing food for a struggling family, a warm coat for a shivering child, or diapers for a desperate mother’s newborn, the Eastmont Garden of Hope seeks to ensure that those in greatest need are served expeditiously and with utmost compassion. Volunteers play a vital role in the program's operations by managing donations and keeping the service area open and available to customers in need throughout the week. This is a great opportunity to get experience working in a social services setting.

Minimum participation is 1 shift (2-4 hours) weekly for 3 months. Shifts are scheduled between 8:30-4:30, Mondays-Fridays depending on coverage needs. Candidates must be age 18 or older who are not current clients of SSA receiving cash benefits or current employees of SSA or the County of Alameda. Confidence in public interaction and customer service is desirable. All prospective Community Ambassadors must attend an orientation, undergo a fingerprint background screening (paid for by the Agency), and be photographed for an ID badge.

The next orientation is Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the San Lorenzo Library (community meeting room), 395 Paseo Grande, San Lorenzo, 94580. There is a free parking on-site. Light dinner will be served.

Please contact Andrea Wong, coordinator at 510-271-9163 or andwong@acgov.org to confirm availability of position and attendance at orientation.
