SOCIAL MEDIA/JOURNALISM VOLUNTEER NEEDED
Seeking an un-paid intern/volunteer for GlobalGirl Media, a non-profit initiative that trains girls in developing countries and under-served US communities in new media citizen journalism. Can be an opportunity for a college student majoring in journalism, public relations, digital media, etc. to fulfill internship hours.
GlobalGirl Media (GGM) develops the voice and media literacy of teenage girls and young women, ages 14-22, in under-served communities by teaching them to create and share digital journalism designed to improve scholastic achievement, ignite community activism and spark social change. Through workshops, mentoring, project-based learning, GGM harnesses the power of new digital media to empower young women from challenged backgrounds to be college and career-ready. By turning up the volume of girl’s voices globally GGM promotes positive storytelling that addresses historically marginalized voices, while building self-esteem, leadership capacity, and 21st century skills.
We are looking for a strong social media person to help us with strategy and posting on all our platforms: INSTA, FB, TWITTER, LINKEDIN, VIMEO and YOUTUBE. We are also rebranding and starting several new campaigns that need to be integrated better with our global chapters. Must have a background in social media, marketing, Canva, Photoshop, InDesign and other graphic design platforms and web design is helpful.
We are based in Los Angeles but work globally.
Your role will include (given your skill level and interest)
- Social media strategy development and management
- Posting on set schedule to all platforms
- And making a positive impact in the lives of young girls worldwide
Our goal is both to increase our followers but also to engage more young women around the world to help them tell their stories.

GLOBAL GIRL MEDIA (GGM) seeks to address this "gender digital divide" by supplying the equipment, education and support necessary to help young women create up-loadable, short-format videos that can bring awareness of their specific needs and lives to the broader web and social media community, while at the same time play a strategic role in improving their situation. We firmly believe that working with young women around the world to find and share their authentic voice is an investment in our global future.
