About West Park Cultural Center

Location:

5114 Parkside Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19131, US

Mission Statement

West Park Cultural Center uses arts and culture as a central tool in programs that help children and youth tap into their creative and academic potential. West Park Cultural Center is where families can access the arts, education, and other programs that contribute to their personal development.

Description

West Park Cultural Center believes in the value of the arts as learning tools. Our instructors represent many arts mediums who design and implement projects that:
- introduce participants to visual thinking skills that can help their problem solving and decision-making at home and in school.
- provide an environment where older and young students of mixed abilities are working together and teaching each other, a place that models "lifelong learning" where the older learners are often beginners and young students are teachers.
- involve art making inspired by collaboration for positive social interaction and teamwork.
- increase the number of under-represented minority girls in STEM education
- give students a compelling reason to engage in difficult tasks by finding the spark that inspires them and keeps them invested in their projects.
