Hours: 3-5 hours weekly

VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People) is a basic needs and social service organization whose programs provide access to healthy foods, social services and transportation for residents of Bloomington, Richfield, Edina, and a portion of south Minneapolis. VEAP is a trusted partner, establishing connections and developing confidence for clients facing financial uncertainty. Through the use of 3,100 volunteers, VEAP unites neighbors around a common goal of building stronger, more hopeful, communities.

VEAP is seeking a Marketing and Event intern with a passion for working for a mission-based organization and recruiting teams for the Walk to End Hunger. The ideal candidate will have strong communications skills - verbal, written and interpersonal; innovative ideas; high level attention to details, self-motivated and able to represent VEAP and encourage participation in the event.

The Walk to End Hunger is a family-friendly 5K fun walk held on Thanksgiving morning in the Mall of America. The Walk to End Hunger was formed as part of the Minnesota Hunger Initiative, a collaboration of hunger relief organizations that have developed a definitive plan to eliminate hunger in the Twin Cities and across the state of Minnesota.

Primary Duties:

The Marketing and Event Intern will assist the Marketing Coordinator in recruiting Walk to End Hunger (WTEH) teams for VEAP and increasing the visibility of VEAP’s participation in the WTEH. The Marketing and Event Intern will support VEAP’s Advancement Team on additional event tasks as needed.

The Marketing and Event Intern will work with the Marketing Coordinator to accomplish tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Attending WTEH planning meetings (once monthly) and attending the event on Thursday, November 23, 2017 from 7:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
  • Targeting local schools, congregations and civic groups to recruit WTEH teams through written and verbal communication
  • Generating WTEH social media content across VEAP's social media channels
  • Exploring new marketing avenues and initiatives that will increase involvement with the WTEH
  • Assorted administrative event assistance when needed

Experience:

  • Working toward or achieved a degree in Marketing, Communications or associated field preferred
  • Creative problem-solver with an interest in social media and modern marketing methods
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple tasks
  • Availability for date and time of event Thursday, November 23, 2017, 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
