What are your summer plans? Are you interested in working with kids and making a difference in your community?
Reading Buddies is looking for reliable, enthusiastic junior high or high school volunteers (entering 7th-12th grade this Fall) to read and play one-on-one with preschoolers in Oakland. Help improve literacy skills for young kids in the East Bay. You'll also gain experience in teaching and mentoring. It's not only rewarding but also fun--and many of our volunteers come back for multiple years.
Reading Buddies will take place at three different Oakland preschools from June 10 through August 2. We ask that volunteers commit to working for at least 3 weeks during that 8 week period. Scheduling is very flexible; you can sign up for as few as two 2-hour shifts per week, or as many as 8 2-hour shifts per week (or any amount in between).
The three locations are:
Highland CDC: 1322 86th Ave, Oakland, CA 94621
Laurel CDC: 3825 California St, Oakland, CA 94619
United Nation CDC: 1025 4th Ave, Oakland, CA 94606
