The Nashville Adult Literacy Council (NALC) is a nonprofit organization that teaches reading to U.S.-born adults and English skills to adult immigrants.
One-on-One tutors are matched with an adult learner who needs literacy instruction, or with an adult immigrant needing conversation and English language skills. Tutors follow the learning plan and use the books and materials provided by NALC .
Tutor and learner communicate directly with each other regarding the time and location of the tutoring sessions. All meetings must take place in a public location.
After attending a six-hour training session, tutors meet with their assigned learner for approximately three hours per week. Tutors spend 30-60 minutes per week preparing for tutoring sessions.
