YOU can brighten the day of a homebound, isolated Elder!
YOU can have fun and get to know someone in your community!
The Adopt-a-Grandparent telephone reassurance program sponsored by Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) of Bergen, Passaic Counties and North Hudson, pairs teens with frail, homebound elders in their community. Teens call their "bubbies" once a week to provide companionship and social interaction as well as helping orient the Elder to time and place and assuring their safety and well being. A JFCS staff member provides training for all volunteers. The training includes an overview of how to make the call, effective communication with the elderly and recordkeeping. The goal of the volunteer programs is to provide quality, compassionate assistance to consumers throughout Bergen, Passaic Counties and North Hudson with their activities of daily living, stimulating communication, interaction and socialization to enhance their quality of life and promote their independence.
