Vigil volunteers are caring and compassionate people who provide a comforting presence to patients in the final stage of their disease. The goal of the vigil volunteer is to ensure that no patient shall die alone. Vigil volunteers consider it a special privilege to spend time with patients at the end of their lives. They must maintain a calm presence for the patient and family during the last few hours of life. Vigil volunteers are, indeed, truly special people. Volunteers are provided with specialized training.

Description
Volunteers play an important role in the philosophy of care at AseraCare Hospice. They provide support to patients and their families that helps enhance the patient's quality of life and reduce the family's caregiving burden. Hospice volunteers may run errands, prepare light meals, stay with a patient to give family members a break, lend emotional support, provide companionship and help out with light housekeeping.
AseraCare volunteers bring a wide variety of skills and talents to our patients and families in support of our hospice team. Every hospice volunteer has something special and significant to contribute, and we welcome new ideas and contributions.
We train our volunteers in a number of areas, including listening techniques, working with families, loss and grief, and bereavement support volunteers play an important role in the philosophy of care at AseraCare Hospice. They provide support to patients and their families that helps enhance the patient's quality of life and reduce the family's caregiving burden.
