Flower City Arts Center

Are you a doer? We want you. Board members are key to ensuring the future success of the organization. Our organization has been serving the community for almost 50 years with classes, exhibits and studio space for artists of all ages and skill levels. We seek people with a passion for the arts and a willingness to help us connect throughout the community. If you want to make sure Rochester continues to have a vibrant arts community, help us make that possible through your talent and network! Especially seeking board candidates with a long history in Rochester and connections in finance, human resources, construction and skilled trades, fundraising, educators and artists.

About Flower City Arts Center

Location:

713 Monroe Ave, Rochester, NY 14607, US

Mission Statement

We are a community-based not-for-profit that educates, encourages and inspires all people to create and enjoy the arts. The Flower City Arts Center offers programs in all of our visual arts areas: photography, ceramics and book arts. We offer youth programs, classes and workshops, rent studio space to individuals and exhibit work in our galleries. Anyone may take classes, though you must be a member to use some of the facilities.

Description

Our adult education programs serve over 1,400 students ages 14 to 75+ each year in the areas of photography (traditional black and white, digital and vintage processes), ceramics (including handbuilt, wheel thrown & altered forms with a variety of surface applications) and book arts (letterpress, hand papermaking, bookbinding and calligraphy).

Our Urban Youth Programs serve inner city children from low to modest income families. We have served more than 1000 youth during the 16 years we have offered our programs. We offer our programs to children who could benefit from a hands-on visual approach to learning, and who have limited or no access to arts programs.

* Wilson Foundation Academy Photo Club: Studio 678, a 22-week after-school photo club for middle school students, uses photography and digital technology to integrate practical applications of academic subjects in science, math, writing, history, and technology in creative and empowering ways.

* Customized programs for city youth - a variety of book arts, ceramics and papermaking programs and activities provided to groups of city youth
