Youth LIFT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps homeless children succeed through education. We do this by matching homeless children with volunteer tutors to work on homework, study skills, self-esteem and anything related to their education. Volunteers are matched with children for a one-on-one relationship to meet once a week.
We have an established program in the St Pete area and are expanding to Tampa. In order to continue our program in Tampa, we need to identify and enroll homeless children that live in the Tampa community.
Youth LIFT is currently looking for dedicated and compassionate volunteers to help the homeless children in the Tampa area. We are looking for volunteers who can work to identify homeless children and teens in the area that would benefit from tutoring and mentoring services. We will train you and provide you with the information you will need to locate and recruit kids for the program. No previous experience is needed.
Volunteers in this position will be partnered with at least one other person. If you have someone in mind that you would like to work with, you are welcome to work together in this role. If not, we will match you with someone to work with.
Volunteers for this position must be 20 years of age or older and must complete an Orientation, Training, interview and background check.

Description
The purpose of Youth LIFT is to help homeless teens succeed academically, graduate from high school, and work toward a rewarding career. We do this by providing tutoring and mentoring opportunities to homeless teens. We also provide educational trips to help homeless youth learn about career opportunities that may interest them and the educational requirements of those careers. Youth LIFT attempts to inspire homeless youth to stay in school and graduate from high school to give them the resources to move to a life off the streets.
Homeless children are likely to continue a pattern of homelessness. Without education, homeless youth are bound for low-paying jobs, poverty, and further instability in their adult lives. Access to a proper education is an important step to ensuring the future success of these youth.
Homeless youth face many barriers to academic achievement including transportation issues, health problems, inadequate study conditions, constant mobility, and developmental delays. Youth LIFT works to help homeless teens overcome these barriers to succeed in school.
