We are looking for single men and women - and married couples without dependents - with strong Spanish language skills to volunteer as assistant teachers in our Montessori-based school in the Dominican Republic. Teaching experience is not necessary to be a Holy Child Volunteer - a desire to help the underserved, strong Spanish language skills, and a love for children are, however! The children and families we serve lack the most basic of necessities - such as adequate housing, enough food, dependable running water and indoor plumbing - and our school and volunteers have been such an important resource for them over the years.
In exchange for their life-changing work, we offer our volunteers a monthly personal expense reimbursement, room/board, orientation, health insurance, opportunities for personal and spiritual growth, and more. We are an 11-month program - one of the shorter "long-term" international volunteer opportunities available, so we are a good program for those who aren't sure they are ready or able to commit to the 2+ years that most international volunteer programs require. Holy Child Volunteers do have the opportunity to renew for additional years, however, once their initial service year is over. The next volunteer year runs from late July 2018-June 30, 2019. More information and the application can be found on our website: holychildvolunteers.org. You can read a blog post from one of our most recent volunteers here: http://catholicvolunteernetwork.blogspot.com/2015/03/reflection-do-it-anyway.html. We accept applicants on a rolling admissions basis.

Description
Holy Child Volunteers are lay individuals who wish to share in the mission of Christ and in the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Child which is "to help others to believe that God lives and acts in them and in our world, and to rejoice in God’s presence." Holy Child Volunteers do this by serving at the mission site of the Sisters of the Holy Child in the Dominican Republic, which encompasses both a school and medical clinic. Holy Child Volunteers provide quality education and service by teaching in the school for one or two years. Holy Child Volunteers live in community and discover that by focusing on the needs of others they themselves grow personally, spiritually, and professionally.
