Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights is a service-based, human rights organization that provides housing, health care, human services, and human rights protections to the most poor and vulnerable people in our society, and uses its 118 years of experience to advocate for social justice.

Refugee and Immigrant Community Services annually resettles more than 150 individuals in Chicago from places like Burma, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo-Brazaville, Iraq, Eritrea & Ethiopia. RICS serves an additional 500 refugees through a variety of services including cultural orientation, adjustment counseling, employment, job readiness and placement services, as well as medical case management, family literacy, and English language training for adults.

We are looking for an unpaid volunteer to help us manager and run our new Thrift Store and Storage Space

Responsibilities for this position include:

o Move items in our storage space (furnishings for refugee apartments) and organize to look like a store.

o Help organize items in new storage space, so things are easily accessible for staff, and can be easy for refugees to find the items the need.

o Help move department supplies and other office equipment.

o Manage donations given to RICS

Qualifications:

o Ability to lift 30 pounds

o Ability to organize

o Patience and flexibility

o Ability to work with a team

Description

Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS) is the human services partner of Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights, a servicebased human rights organization that provides material assistance to meet basic human needs and other services and advocacy that foster empowerment, societal participation, and self-sufficiency. HHCS delivers a variety of services to newly-arrived refugees, asylees and immigrants through its Refugee & Immigrant Community Services (RICS). RICS is comprised of a dedicated, multi-lingual and multi-cultural staff with diverse backgrounds and expertise in the refugee and immigrant fields.
