Young volunteer getting community service hours

Looking to fulfill your community service requirements and get some fresh air? We welcome your help in our garden helping to water, weed, mulch and plant. We have Saturday hours from 9-1 from April through September. During your breaks you are welcome to join us on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9-noonish. The American Horticultural Society sits on 25 beautiful acres on the Potomac River and is rich in history dating back to the time when this property was owned by George Washington. If this sounds like something you are interested in, please get in touch. We enjoy working with young people!!!

About The American Horticultural Society

Location:

Mission Statement

To open the eyes of all Americans to the vital connection between people and plants, to inspire all Americans to become responsible caretakers of the Earth, to celebrate America's diversity through the art and science of horticulture; and to lead this effort by sharing the Society's unique national resources with all Americans.

Description

Founded in 1922, the American Horticultural Society (AHS) is one of the oldest member-based national gardening organizations in North America. Our headquarters at River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia, is a national showcase for environmentally responsible gardening practices.

We have more than 20,000 members, including home gardeners, garden club members, professional horticulturists, educators, and Master Gardeners. We advocate earth-friendly gardening practices, promote plant-based education for children, recognize leaders in American gardening, and showcase the art and science of horticulture. We also produce a bi-monthly magainze, The American Gardener.

In addition to our full-time staff, we rely on dedicated volunteers who give their time and talents to the organization.
