History of the "Soldiers Home"
Our group of Civil War Fashion historians

We have an opportunity for volunteer docents/tour guides to learn about our local Soldiers Home and welcome visitors to our Miami Valley Military History Museum and the American Veterans Heritage Center. Our office hours are 9 AM - 2 PM, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We need volunteers to assist with phone calls and visitors to our office and musuem. Volunteers will need to register with VA Voluntary Services and be willing to learn about the history of the Dayton VA Campus, the American Veterans Heritage Center, and the Museum.

The mission of the American Veterans Heritage Center is to increase awareness of veterans' issues, recognize veterans' contributions, endorse patriotism, promote tourism, and enhance the neighborhood by preserving and developing the Dayton Ohio Veterans Affairs Historic District.

The American Veterans Heritage Center, Inc. (AVHC), is a non-profit corporation with an exciting mission. We honor the accomplishments of veterans while preserving a priceless piece of national and local history--­the Soldiers Home located at the VA Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. We invite you to take your place in history by helping us make this venture a success.

The scope of our activities include historic preservation projects, events, tours, and our annual festival, "Patriot Freedom Festival."
