The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Kentucky Refugee Ministries is in need of dedicated volunteers to come in bi-weekly or monthly for a couple of hours to help sort and organize donations that are used for refugee resettlement. These items are housed in our warehouse and include household items and large furniture. This job is more independent as the volunteers are able to decide how best to organize donations. This would be an on-going project, and volunteers would be responsible for organizing new donations that come in.
(This is also a good one-time service project opportunity for community service groups.)
Volunteer Impact: KRM receives many donations, and dedicated individuals who do not mind working alone for a couple of hours every so often are a huge asset. KRM depends on these volunteers to keep the basement organized so that caseworkers and the youth services coordinator can access donations easily and give them to the clients who need them. This results in KRM staff giving away the donations more efficiently to more clients.
