The McHenry County Historical Society and Museum seeks volunteers to staff the Museum's reception desk from March to December. Volunteers do not need to work all of these days. The position is ideal for high school students or seniors. Dress is business casual.

The primary duties for this position are to greet visitors and take admission. Those interested can work all or any days, Tuesday-Friday from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm or any/all Saturdays from 11 am - 4 pm. (No holidays).

When visitor traffic is slow, volunteers can bring their laptops, read a book, work on a project/homework, or work on museum projects.

2 Shifts

  • 11:00 AM to 04:00 PM
    Work one Saturday/month or as many as you wish.
  • afternoon / 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM
    Work one or all days, Tues - Friday

Description

Established in 1963, our members, staff, and volunteers have a 60-year-plus record rich in preservation, education, and entertainment contributions to McHenry County.

We create learning experiences and events. We focus on local culture, organization, and family history. We collect and care for notable artifacts. We participate in the activities of like-minded organizations throughout McHenry County.

Besides operating the museum, the Society plaques historic sites and structures, holds adult programs and arranges various school and adult group tours.
