Want to help Habitat and the environment? Join the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity Deconstruction Team! Help the team in providing an alternative to landfill disposal. Decon items are sold in Habitat ReStores, with proceeds going to make a difference in the lives of Habitat for Humanity homeowners in Buncombe and Madison counties.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Help salvage useable and sellable materials from remodeling projects or other sources identified by our Deconstruction Manager.
- Typical tasks include helping remove kitchen cabinets, doors and windows, large appliances, and electrical fixtures.
- Tools and necessary safety equipment will be provided.
- Hours vary, jobs are typically from 9am-1pm.
- Scheduling varies as the need arises and can be short notice.
- Decon volunteers are expected to provide their own lunch and snacks, water, and transportation to and from the job site. Riding out with staff from the ReStore is also an option, occasionally.
- Can't make an ongoing commitment? That's ok! We value your contributions as a single-day volunteer, too.
- Skills required are a willingness to learn and the energy to perform this physical task.
- Prior experience with tools is helpful but not necessary.
Attire:
- Comfortable, close-toed shoes.
