Good Shepherd Food-Bank is Maine's largest hunger relief organization and Food Sorters assist us with our staple program, the procurement and distribution of millions of pounds of food annually. To accomplish this task volunteers are needed to sort through donated product that comes to our warehouse in Auburn. This is a key role in our operations that allows us to accurately inventory and track donations.

Volunteers work in a team at a conveyor belt to receive food, inspect it for food safety and sort it into over 20 different categories.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Good-Shepherd Food-Bank is to provide food for those at risk of hunger by soliciting surplus food and distributing it to nonprofit programs throughout Maine, and in doing so to do the work of Jesus, who is The Good Shepherd.

Description

Good Shepherd Food Bank is the central hub of Maine's largest hunger relief network. We provide for those at risk of hunger by soliciting food donations and purchasing food at wholesale prices, then distributing this food to over 600 partner agencies in every county in Maine. Our partner agencies include nonprofit organizations that fight hunger on the front lines in their communities, such as soup kitchens, homeless shelters, food pantries, and after school programs for underprivileged kids.

By working together as a network, Good Shepherd Food Bank and our partners are able to provide enough food for nearly 30,000 meals every day of the year.

By volunteering at the Food Bank, you are able to make a direct impact in providing both food and hope for Maine families from Kittery to Fort Kent.
