You must live in Maplewood, or within a five-mile radius with no Reserve unit, Millburn or South Orange, to be eligible for membership.
Members are fully trained at a police academy and then ongoing by the town for duties as a volunteer patrol officer to help support emergencies and special events along with scheduled nightly patrols, one Sunday detail per month and a monthly meeting. A weapon, patrol car and uniforms are provided.

Recruiting Maplewood residents 18 and older to volunteer for the Police Auxiliary force. Members are trained at the police academy, carry a weapon and patrol the town in a police cruiser to support the local police force.
