SUMMARY: The Hospitality Volunteer uses excellent customer service and critical thinking skills to help create a welcoming environment at the You Betta Work Job Fair by being knowledgeable in order to answer questions and give directions to employers and job seekers, as needed. They also ensure that the job fair is maintained by moving any unintended trash to the proper receptacle, and engage in conversations that uplift the employers, job seekers, Center staff, and fellow volunteers creating an environment that draws employers back for future You Betta Work Job Fairs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct job seekers to the locations for workshops, headshots, etc.
  • Direct employers to the hospitality suite in the Lambda Lounge.
  • Direct job seekers, employers and fellow volunteers to the restrooms.
  • Remind everyone entering the venue space of The Center’s mask policy.
  • Move throughout the event, both outdoors and indoors, and collect and properly dispose of any unattended trash, recycling and compost. Latex or nitrile gloves and trash bags will be provided.
  • Assist workshop presenters as needed.

REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Passion for The Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization. Respect for everyone’s real or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, including pronouns. Commitment to anti-racism and racial equity required.
  2. Language Skills: Fluency in speaking, reading, writing and listening to English.
  3. Age Restrictions: Must be 18 years of age or older.
  4. Physical Demands: Business casual attire and closed toed shoes are required. This position will be exclusively indoors. Persons in this position will be required to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, and to hear, understand, and distinguish in-person speech. Persons in this position may be seated or standing, and may sometimes be asked to accompany a lost individual to their destination. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  5. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Previous experience in customer service is a plus.
  6. Familiarity with the physical space of The Center is a plus.
  7. Vaccination Requirement: We fully support COVID-19 vaccinations and are requiring employees and volunteers to have proof of full vaccination.
  8. The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is a drug-free workplace and is committed to providing a safe, efficient, and productive work environment. Volunteers who report for service under the influence are subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
